Sunday Surprise

I have seen this little girl a few times now, at first I couldn't tell if she was a he or a she, now I know because her pouch is full.  Can you see the big full pouch at the front of her body, in here is her baby and while she was sitting watching me watch her through my office window, its legs were moving furiously.  She is so cute.
I hope I get to see this little one pop it's head out soon.  You never know, and she is so timid.  As soon as she even spots my shadow moving inside she is all hesitant and on edge.  I hear people ask all the time if here in Australia kangaroos and wallabies are hopping down the street, well usually we would say no.  Here we I live we have 9 acres and about 4 of that is scrub and the surrounding houses have lots of bushland too.  We really do get kangaroos in our back yards.  I love it.  She is if I am correct a Red Necked (Bennett's) Wallaby and her baby will be in her pouch for about 9 months.  When they are born they are tiny and hairless and by the time they leave the pouch they are quite big.  The females of this species stay living fairly close together but the males will leave.  Though they will often associate together. So I will keep my eye out for the joey and hopefully I will get to meet him/her before too much longer.

Darling Harbour at night is magical don't you think.  All the pretty lights shimmering on the water like fireworks.
My friends Carmel & her hubby Merv at Sub Solo Spanish Restaurant in Sydney.  We loved this place the food was great and doesn't Carmel look great all decked out in her tiara!  Ha ha!!

Hiding amongst the balloons the boys put up for me while Carmel and I were out buying drinks.  I got such a surprise when we came back in the room.  Streamers and balloons and huge 50 stickers on the windows.  I hate to think what the cleaning lady thought each day.  We left them there all weekend too it was great.  So till next time have a great weekend, think I might go swim now, it sure is hot enough.

50 and Fabulous

Happy Birthday to me for the last time.  Wow what a week it's been!  First my wonderful dinner with my family, what a surprise and what a blast that was.  Then our weekend away in Sydney with our good friends Carmel and Merv.  That was a blast too! Seriously spoilt that's all I can say I am.  Thank you guys I love ya.
This beautiful Pandora gift of two charms for my Breast Cancer pink leather bracelet from Carmel and Merv is gorgeous.  The little wrapped present to remind me it was for my birthday and the little clock because as Carmel said time is racing by ha ha wait till she turns 50.
Our weekend was spent laughing, and sipping Bubbles and laughing and chatting.  Adrian and Merv climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge, very well done I must say.  Carmel and I wandered the streets of Sydney, shopping in the Markets, and then decided after we were unable to get a facial or massage at short notice, that we would instead, take a ride on the super fast speed boat that flies across the harbour.  We donned our totally classy looking plastic purple ponchos and wondered why we even bothered.  Totally saturated at the end of the 45 min dash we stood dripping on the waterfront at Circular Quay.  We screamed, laughed, spluttered as we copped mouthfuls of salty water, squinted through our totally splattered glasses and the salty stinging water.  We had a blast.  It was so much fun, so glad we did it.  The guys were a little envious I think.  No pictures of that though as absolutely everything is banned in the boats.  You have to use both hands to hang on or go swimming ha ha!
Sunday morning found us at Manly for breakfast and strolling along the ocean front.  The hot sun beating down and the ever present life savers on duty.
Sunny summer days in Australia are best spent near or on the water.
Even our animals take to the water when they can.
My birthday was fabulous, I was surrounded by people I love doing things I love to do, eating, drinking, going to the theatre, did I mention we went to Jersey Boys in Sydney?  What better could I have asked for, nothing truly.
If 2011 is like this all year I will need lots of sleep and lots of exercise ha ha, what a way to go.

I have to admit I was tricked, surprised, relieved, and totally blown away yesterday.  Firstly I get a phone call to come sit Elle for a while so Alicia can go to the doctors.  Of course I am worried, she said it was about some blood tests he needed to talk to her about.  My mother's alarm went off immediately.  So about 20 minutes after she leaves her house I go into Elle's room to change her and find this note on the change table.  The trickery begins, it is about 4pm when I get this and you can bet I struggled to wait till 5.45pm to lift that darn flap.

Wait I did though, well till about 5.30pm seriously what's a girl to do it was killing me..... This is what followed.  So now I am a little more worried,  see I never get surprised, I always somehow find out what's happening.  I don't mean to, but I am a natural detective, okay I can hear my girls all crying out "Don't you mean a bloody sticky beak"  No I am not a nosey parker I have a natural gift for finding things out.  Truly.
I do exactly as I am told get Elle ready and head home, belly churning.
I walk in and find helium balloons hanging from the ceiling all through the entry and a big 50th balloon on the front walk way.  Now I am really sweating.  See I don't like to be the centre of attention at all.  I can talk at things for a reason, you know to promote or share information that's okay but I hate the focus being on me.  I have always said to my family no surprise party thing ever, do you get me EVER!!!!!!!  I am sweating bullets right about now.  I am shunted into my room to get dressed and all the time I am almost hyper ventilating thinking the bloody kitchen must be full of family waiting to jump me.  EEk!!!!  I was terrified.  I did have a lovely moment where I thought Carmel or my mum might be out there waiting to surprise me and then I thought that's crazy I am flying to Sydney in a few days to meet Carmel and I just spoke to mum on the phone and she was still in Brisbane.
Turned out that these three little misses, along with Adrian had decided that I would like to celebrate turning 50 with wait for it....
A 6 course Degustation Dinner prepared by a 2 Hat, 3 Michillen Star chef direct from England,  complete with a gorgeous little waitress named Celine.  Each course accompanied by a complimentary wine and all this in my own home with the people I love most in the world.
So were they correct, did I enjoy it what do you think...

Course 1 yeah we ate the flowers too delish.  This was a crab dish.
Course 2 a crown of tiny weeny asparagus tips with salmon inside.
Course 3 Duck fillet with Duck roll and a sweet potatoe puree
Course 4 Salmon on a bed of hand shelled and hand split peas with the teeniest vegetable ever and a crispy skin wafer.
Course 5 Lamb with a rich Jus and a mushroom puree under that was to die for.
Tell me when was the last time you had a potato done like this and these teeny carrots and asparagus oh my.
Course 6 Strawberries and icecream yeah right this was amazing, a homemade vanilla icecream with strawberries in a warm brulee almost deliciousness.
Sorry but as the night wore on the pictures weren't so great our Paulie number one son in law.
Magic table setting and Pop in the background strapping the Princess into her high chair.
These two cannot help but in the shot ha ha!!
As you can see things get silly.

And sillier.  Always, always I love it actually.
My wonderful man gosh I love him.  He gave me the three most beautiful daughters and I honestly don't know what I would do without him.

Alicia first born and so loved.
Ashleigh first born twin by 2 minutes.

Thanks guys all of you for making my day so wonderful it was a brilliant surprise and I enjoyed it soooooo much.
So all my favourite people together from the littlest to the oldest it just doesn't get any better than that.  Bring on the next 50.

Half a Century...eek!!!!

I went to bed last night young and woke this morning a half a century, gosh how did that happen?  Well day by day I guess rolled into year by year,  never really noticed it happening actually, never really minded that I was on the down hill run to half a century, now though ouch I have landed with a bump.  Birthday presents in bed, from my darling, long suffering, devoted, hubby.  A gorgeous gold thumb ring that for the moment I will wear on my ring finger, my hands are swollen, firstly because of hormones secondly because of heat.  Then to my surprise a birthday notice in the newspaper, right next to the funeral notices how appropriate, a colourful balloon edged box with our special code word SHMILY and Happy Birthday Darling Love you heaps written.  I nearly missed it, luckily Adrian was sitting in bed beside me waiting for me to see it.  He said something, can't for the life of me remember what and it made me look at the page again, in terror actually that my photo might be in there, horror, luckily it wasn't but my birthday notice was.  Really sweet I love that guy!!!!!!  SHMILY you're wondering aren't you ?   Well I'm going to let you wonder a little more.
This delightful old car sits in a paddock on the way to Alicia's house and I have wanted to snap it for ages.  I got a great zoom lens for Christmas once again from my darling and I hung out the sun roof of our car on Sunday and snapped away.  The zoom is great.  Mind you right now I feel a bit like this car looks.
Thistle seeds about to fly away, gorgeous don't you think?

Like I said the other day the last 50 have been a blur really, sometimes dashing by so fast it's been hard to keep up.  I think tonight the girls have a surprise planned, no idea what, but I know I'm not cooking yeah for you girls !!!!!  We head off to Sydney on Friday for 3 nights with Carmel and Merv in the big smoke, well it is for us anyway, I am excited about that.  So tomorrow when I wake up it will be just another day in the next 50 wonder what that will be like.  Have a great day where ever and what ever you are doing.  No power today so heading off to get a pedicure and nails done my birthday treat, yeah!!!!!

Oh and SHMILY  well .. See How Much I Love You........cute hey!

Rushing By

No particular reason for posting this rather ordinary photograph other than to make your mouths water and you extremely envious.  This was our dinner last night, the freshest white (I know eat more grain yeah yeah) roll filled with the freshest black tiger prawns, oh my they were good and the most delish avocado.  This was topped with a sprinkle of home grown basil oh the smell was divine and drizzled with lemon juice and macadamia oil, to die for really it was.
So are you jealous?!!

I know I haven't been here all week, sorry about that but the days are seeming to just fly by.  In 4 teeny weeny days holy hector I will be 50 eek, yep 50 where did the time go, where did the years go?  Seriously I can remember sitting on my kitchen floor as a toddler and wetting my pants and not being game to move for hours.  My mother saying come on Kim hop up go play, come on, all day really.  Turned out I had kidney problems and needed a little op and then at 18 a major op and the risk of having a kidney removed.  Fortunately 8 hours later, 11 kidney stones and a very hard working doc, I still have them both today.  Yeah for persistent patient doctors.
I can remember so vividly the first fight I ever saw or heard my parents have, I was about 8 and I was devastated.  They divorced a few years later.  I remember our early family holidays at Coffs Harbour, at the Banana Bowl Caravan Park and the boy who drowned even though my dad tried so hard to rescue him.  I was 6.  I remember moving to the Gold Coast at 15, moving to Toowoomba at 19, meeting Adrian, falling in love at first sight, I really did.  I remember Adrian meeting my dad, oh boy!!!  I remember my dad eventually loving him and them fishing together.  I can vividly recall the night dad told me he had cancer and the final days we had together 2 years later.  I still weep.  I remember living in a nice house, living in a caravan, living in flats and units and many houses over the years.    I remember asking Adrian to marry me, yeah I know wrong way round hey oh well.  The wedding day, the arguments, the pregnancies, the babies, the moves, the fights, making up (wink wink)  laughing, crying, loving always even though it didn't always feel like it.
So many things over the years that could have broken us, but fortunately didn't.  I can recall clearly Alicia's wedding day, my first born child whom I adore walking out of our front door for the last time a Kath now a Middleton. I remember the joy of our first grandson Lucas, the absolute breaking of our hearts and spirits when he left us so shortly after.  The tears are still there, we just are learning to hold them back.  I remember friends who were there for us for a little while, but who no longer gather with us, that makes me sad.  I can recall with such joy seeing Ashleigh and Danielle my gorgeous twins, in the Heathrow airport and hugging them and laughing and crying and Christmas in England, Bath, the Cottswolds, Oxford, Cambridge and tasting my first Pinot Grigio.   I think often of the Cinque Terre, Paris, Rottenburg, Austria, Switzerland, my friend Gretchen from Ohio, John & Sharon from California, Helene, Phillipe, Clement and Paul in Cannes, the people who have brought joy and friendship into our lives.  I laugh and cry and stare in wonder when I think of Elle our beautiful angel child.  Our little granddaughter, whom we love so very much.  I think ahead too, to the next weddings, the next grandchildren, the next friends, the next journeys, the rest of our lives together.  It is exciting, daunting, scary, challenging, all these and much more.  But mostly the time has just flown by.  Now new friends, Carmel and Merv, Se'Lah in America and who knows who else will pass by, linger a while, run like crazy when they really get to know us ha ha!!!!  It is all a part of this life we live this journey we are on.  Will the next 50 years fly by as quickly. let's see hey?
I can hear you saying, you really want another 50 that makes you 100 you know?!!!  Yeah I do, if I can see, talk, laugh, walk, eat, oh I do love eating, drink a little, or a lot depending,  remember names and faces, dates and places, yeah I want another 50.  I want the the pain, the tears, the fears, the heartache and the heart wrenching love and absolute joy and excitement that everyday brings with it.  After all if the next 50 rush by like the last 50 it'll be a breeze.  Wanna stick around and see it with me?
